Leadership for a Future

RICJ and the Institute for Labor Studies conducts the "Leadership for a Future" institute, a leadership development and community building program that runs from January through May of each year. The program begins with a January weekend retreat at Canonicus Conference Center in Exeter and continues with twice a month Tuesday sessions from 4:30pm to 8:30pm with one session on Saturday, February 6th in various sites around the state.  Curriculum is Leadership Development, Grassroots Organizing, Building Relationships, Public Speaking, and a People's History of Rhode Island.  The graduation ceremony is held in the Senate Chamber of the RI Statehouse.  The cost of the program is $400.  Scholarships are available

 Racial Profiling Prevention Law Passed

RI's 2004 law is the most progressive in the nation, developed in collaboration with community and police. RICJ facilitated negotiations between the RI Civil Rights Roundtable and RI Police Chiefs Association, to help bridge historic divides.
