JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Youth Program Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Youth Program Director

SUMMARY: The Youth Program Coordinator (YPC) is responsible for coordinating, implementing and facilitating RICJ’s youth and school based programs focusing on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

The YPC is a full time (30 hr/wk) position with health benefits. They supervise and are assisted by a full time Youth Empowerment VISTA whose responsibility is to build the capacity of the youth programs.

The YPC is supervised by RICJ’s part time Youth Program Director to create effective designs, curricula, and activities to build successful youth programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consult with the Youth Program Director on the design and curricula of youth programs and to establish criteria needed for effective programming.

  • Manage and implement specific RICJ youth programs:

  • September through June: Youth Action Council where youth meet weekly.

  • Summer: Project RESPECT (directed by the Youth Program Director)

  • Summer: Youth Facilitating for Change summer jobs program (if refunded). This program includes one to two paid half time Program Coordinators supervised by the YPC.

  • Coordinate logistics and staffing for the youth programs.

  • Provide on going support to youth program participants, alumni, parents, and educators.

  • Outreach to school systems, youth serving agencies, neighborhood groups, and government and civic leaders to promote programs.

  • Recruit and supervise VISTAs, volunteers, and/or interns as necessary for programs.

  • Ensure that outcome and evaluation data are collected on youth programs and analyzed/reported by the Youth Empowerment VISTA.

  • Work with staff to assist their efforts to effectively sustain the youth programs.

  • Perform additional duties designated by the Executive Director to achieve success of programs and meet the mission of RICJ.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BA in youth development or related field preferred.

  • 2+ years’ experience implementing programs for high school youth.

  • Commitment to youth health/wellness and the mission of RICJ.

  • Experience supervising VISTAs, interns and/or volunteers.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • A self starter with strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work with youth on leadership, communication, public speaking and facilitation skills.

  • Ability to relate to young people AND keep a professional distance.

  • Must be grounded and organized and yet flexible and open to the changing demands of a small organization, including flexibility to engage in weekend or residential camp schedules.

  • Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Have own car (or reliable transportation), valid driver's license and auto liability insurance.

  • Pass national background check and DCYF clearance.

  • Youth Worker certification (BEST Initiative or comparable training: Required).

  • Bilingual Spanish (Preferred).
